This P9628BRC Bluetooth, Double-Din, 6.2" Touch Screen Monitor with Back-Up Camera from Planet Audio is a nice upgrade for my older car stereo and the back-up camera is fantastic!
First of all, double-din refers to size. You need to be sure your vehicle currently has a double-din radio in it or it won’t fit out of the box. You *can* make it work in *some* cars that don’t currently have a double-din radio, but you’ll be doing some complicated modifications or paying someone else a lot to do it for you. I suggest measuring carefully if you have any doubt. Fortunately, the stereo I replaced was a double din and it fit perfectly.
My husband installed this himself and because he had installed one recently in another vehicle, it was fairly easy. It did take him all day but most of that was running the wiring invisibly for the back up camera. The installation instructions are okay but we watched a lot of YouTube videos, too, and I strongly suggest doing that, especially if this is your first time to install one of these. And we had to order a wiring harness (very inexpensive) for our particular vehicle.
This has a touch screen, which I’ve never had in a vehicle. The screen has a lot of lag so it took a while for me to get used to it but it’s fine now. Sound Storm includes a plastic stylus which works great but pro tip: tie it to a string that you tie to an air vent or something or you’ll lose it instantly. It’s small. They also include a great remote, which works even better but is too distracting for a driver to hold and use, IMO. I think it’s better for use by a passenger. My husband attached a magnet to the back of the remote for the system he just installed in his vehicle and hangs it on a magnetic cell phone mount and uses it that way while driving….
